Saturday Estate Sale and Garage Sale Bargains

Today, Tony and I took off early and found some really great items at estate sales and a few garage sales.  I am most pleased with the rugs I found at an estate sale. Both are Persian rugs, with the original labels on the back.  We paid $10.00 each!! Both rugs are in super clean condition.  The women we bought them from said they belonged to her grandparents.  Her grandfather was a pilot in the Air Force and traveled a lot. She thought they had them a long time. Doesn't really matter what the age is to me anyway, I just love that they are perfect for our home.

This one is perfect for our long hallway. Cookie Crumble, our calico cat loves it. As soon as I laid it down she pranced back and forth walking slowing and enjoying the soft nap. This one measures 3 x 10 ft.

 Close-up of the rugs detail.

This one I put in the entrance to our home, it measures 4 x 5 1/2 ft.

Close-up detail, this looks lighter than it really is because the sunlight was shining on it. I will need to make sure that I close the blinds when the sun is shining to keep it from fading.

At the same sale we found this bookcase for a mere $10.00! Tony has a collection of steins and has been looking for a cabinet to put them in but didn't want to pay a lot of money. He was shocked that I got this for $10.00, and I didn't have to negotiate to get it for that price.

Tony found these two ships at a garage sale and paid $2.00 a piece.

He also picked up this Taylor Made 9 iron at a garage sale for $10.00.

I found this new Krups coffee grinder that I will use for grinding spices, at a garage sale for $2.00!

I picked this bird ladder up for $1.00, it still had the original tag on it.  We have two parakeets and they will love climbing on this.

And my final purchase was this new garden hat for $1.00.

We had a great time and came home with some fantastic bargains.

  2. There is no tradition of garage sale in our country, but we have local purchasing in most of the cities every sunday. I think I should go there to look after a garden hat too. I would be prettier without the nose sunburned.

  6. that second rug looks like a tree of life Chinese silk - sort of thing - I used to drool over as I waited for the bus, back when I was a student.

    1. the backs of both rugs say Persian but other than that the only thing I know is that they were both previously purchased from a shop in La Jolla, CA. I think they are quality rugs coming from that area.
