The garden has once again taken off after the recent rains. This is the second week in a row that I have not had to water, and that is so good for us CA gardeners. Normally I would water at least once a week. The purple cauliflower plants are in the foreground, then to the right is the San Marzano tomato plant that is still thriving. I only pick a tomato now and then even though it does have many on the vines, they just aren't getting ripe; not enough heat I would guess. This week we should see a couple of days close to 80 degrees so I may be able to find a few red ones.
On the left of this photo is Lacinato Kale, about 6-8 plants and lots of green onions.
In the center beds are kohlrabi, turnips, beets and swiss chard. The bed toward the top of the photo has 6 Brussel Sprouts plants, radishes, rapini and some more lettuces. Against the back fence is a Chinese cabbage called Michihili, I planted a lot of this and harvested that tall one after taking the photo. I made a really good soup with it and some potatoes and onions. YUM!
To the right of this photo is Buttercrunch lettuce and Rouge d' Hiver, a romaine lettuce. Snow peas at the top right of the photo,
What I wouldn't give for a fresh tomato. Your garden looks healthy and wonderful. We saw on the news all of the dreadful mudslides, so I am glad that the rain did you some good, rather than tear things up. Marry Christmas, Carla. Thank you so much for visiting the Garden Spot all year. See you next year.
ReplyDeleteHi Ann, yes we were lucky to not see any damage from the rains like so many did in other counties. Merry Christmas to you as well and we will see you in 2015!
DeleteThank you for the green. We got a couple feet of snow today. Your post was refreshing.
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie, I would love to see snow again for Christmas. It has been years since I visited anywhere with snow over the holidays. Maybe next year!
