Brave Souls

I took a walk though the garden and snapped some pictures. It will be near freezing again tonight but these brave souls are still sharing their beauty.
Calendula peeking through the iron Welcome sign.
Tree Mallow, Lavatera maritima

Perfume Delight Rose, 4 weeks after I pruned it.
I have a few Iris that have bloomed, but it is still early.
Hollyhock doing well even after the bugs attacked it. The new growth looks good so far.
I have no idea why these Cosmos came up this early!
Dill is thriving in the cold temperatures.

Rose campion lychnis coronaria, I am so happy that this has reseeded in many areas around the back patio.

Violets in the Fairy Garden

A few Bromiliads are in bloom

Clivia
A fairy fushia protected under the large leaves of a Maderense Geranium.
Fan Aloe just beginning to bloom.
Everything is blooming most recklessly; if it were voices instead of colors, there would be an unbelievable shrieking into the heart of the night.

  1. Amazing that you have color this time of year. Lovely pictures to remember your garden as it succumbs to frost, always sad to say goodbye. Love the Rilke quote. cheers. ann

  4. Thank you all for your visit. I was hoping my flowers would be enjoyed by those still in the mist of winter snows. I think I was most surprised to find the fushia and the rose campion in bloom. We did have very nice weather a few weeks ago; I guess they all thought spring had come and went into bloom. I will bring out all my blankets to cover as many plants as I can this week. I am hoping the forcast frost will miss us.
Thanks again for coming to my blog.

  6. I needed this! The sun is here today, but things are fairly barren up here still. Almost. I can feel spring calling!

    Thanks for sharing the pics!

  9. So far so good, they all made it through the night. No frost, now we just need to make it through the weekend. Maybe that will miss us also.

Thank you Heather, Red, LVL and Ong for your visit. I hope my flowers brought some warmth to your day. Spring is not far off now.

  10. Hello, Carla, and thank you for your kind comments. I cannot believe the cold you are getting; we are currently 30 degrees and with a forecast of low teens tonight with this arctic blast we are all getting. Hopefully we will get past it in the next few days and get on with spring. PS: we think of Escondido, fondly. ;)

  12. Hi Carla, there are so many plants in flower, despite the cold temps. I recognize the Australian wattles, they do well far afield. It is raining here, we had very high temps and very humid, its good to see the rain, when it comes down so gently.
