It still has more buds to open.
Here are some photos of our recently purchased Eucomis Comosa, in bloom. This one looks to be the one they call 'Twinkle Stars' although that was not on the label.
I have yet to find a location to plant it in the ground. I think I should probably put it in a semi-shaded location. Sitting on this table it is getting filtered sunlight from the trees overhead. I will wait until it stops blooming and possibly wait until fall to plant it out. It should reach 2-3 feet wide and 1-2 feet high so it will need a pretty good size area. Not having much of that around the need to wait to plant becomes higher on the list.
The blooms were an unexpected surprise to us. When we bought it we just liked the "pineapple" top it had. What a bonus to have these striking tiny flowers appearing all along the plant.
San Marcos Growers this site has information on the plant and has a list of growers that may be able to supply the plant to you.
What a spectacular bloom...I do envy your growing climate so much. You can grow so many exotic varieties and enjoy fresh fruits and vegetables year round.
ReplyDeleteHappy you dropped by for a visit to the pond...we are unusually warm and humid this week & that water sure looks inviting:o)
Quite a stunning plant. Probably too tropical for Colorado. Certainly one that you will enjoy a lot.
