Bearded Iris Bursting into Bloom

After yesterdays rains I took some photos of my Iris collection.  Just a few are blooming now with many more to come.  In the fall I divided up quite a few and have separated some of the colors.  I now have a large bed of purple variations that should be blooming in the next few weeks.

I will share with you the ones visiting me now.

  1. They are so beautiful and delicate!

Today in the yard we saw a couple of butterflies (or the same on over and over again). It was yellow, with a large wing span. The kids and I were so excited!

  2. Thank you Carrie. The weather is perfect today. I saw a few butterflies already too, but it is still a little early for them.

  4. My bearded iris were very unhappy with my unamended silty soil and croaked. I read somewhere that all bearded iris were fragrant, what do yours smell like?

  6. Christine, I do not think there is much of a scent, at least I have not noticed it.

  7. I adore Irises but mine are about a month behind this year, the leaves are only just getting going and no sign of flower stalks

  8. Those are beautiful Iris! If I were I bee, I'd chose that lovely gold and orange iris too. Last time I tried bearded iris, the gophers got the lot! For some reason they seem to leave our native iris alone though.
